Before estheticians are allowed to place one product upon a client's skin, he/she learns how to effectively read labels. This is extremely important as cosmetic ingredients are loosely regulated.
Since 1976, the FDA has required that cosmetic ingredients need to be listed in descending order, according to the amount of the ingredient the product contains. This is especially important as cosmetic companies often tout many beneficial ingredients; however, inspection of the label reveals that these ingredients are often listed at the bottom of the ingredients listing, often below fillers and other non-essential ingredients. This may mean that these ingredients are not effectively contributing to the efficacy of the product at all.
